Fun Facts: Interestingly muc...

Interestingly much of the plant is turned into useful products. For instance, the silky hairs for the seed pods was once used during World War II to stuff pillows and mattresses. Stalks were turned into paper and muslin since their fiber has tensile strength. Native American Indians used the fiber as ropes and fish nets. Rubber can be made from the latex from the sap of the plant. They have also been used for medicinal purposes to heal infections.
