This annual does well in part shade morning sun (4-6 hours) to full shade (2-4 hours). This plant can take full sun in northern climates where the season is mild.

Give this Fuchsia moist, well drained soil. If overwintering, cut back moisture during the winter months while in dormancy.

Average humidity between 40-60% is fine for this plant.

Fuchsia prefer cool daytime temperatures between 60°F-70°F and cooler nights down to 55°F. Temperatures over 80°F can cause some blooms to drop. Keep them out of cold winds and the afternoon sun.

Treat this plant as an annual in most parts of the country or overwinter in a greenhouse.

Fertilize every two weeks during its growing period in the spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer or topical granular soil fertilizer.  Let the plant rest in the fall and winter.            

If you've overwintered in a greenhouse, repot your Fuchsia with new soil in the same pot. This will give them fresh nutrients and remove salt buildup around the plant's roots. They like to be a bit rootbound, so wait and go bigger every 2-3 years or when your plant is wilting often.

When repotting in the spring, use a 2" bigger pot to keep the roots drier. (Too big of a pot could cause the soil to dry slower, which is not helpful.) Use a well-draining indoor potting mix with perlite to help with drainage.
Water your plant in the old pot before transferring over and let it sit for an hour. Place a piece of screening at the bottom of the container over the drainage hole to secure the soil and allow it to drain. Add soil to the bottom to elevate the root ball. Lift the plant and release the roots against the existing planter. Use a clean knife or garden trowel to wedge between the pot and the soil to loosen.
Inspect the root ball. Notice if there are any dead or rotting roots and trim them off with sterile pruners. If the plant is rootbound, cut through the roots to alleviate continued encircling.
Ensure the plant is sitting about 1" below the edge of the pot to avoid water spillage. Add more soil and backfill around the sides by tamping down. Fill up to the soil line but not over.
Water thoroughly, leaving the soil damp but not soggy. If settling occurs, add more soil.

Fuchsia bloom on new wood, so if you're overwintering, trim back in early spring to half its size to give it time to produce new branches. To coax branching, pinch off new buds when they appear. Deadhead spent blooms to encourage more flowering.

Stem Cutting:
In early spring, take a Fuchsia cutting, using sharp pruners to remove a tip measuring 4-6 inches off the vine with two sets of leaves.
Place in a vase with water to root. Change the water each week with filtered, bottled, or tap water sitting at least 24 hours.
After 3-4 weeks, check to ensure the stem has 1-2 inch, well-formed roots. If so, it's time to plant.
*Fill a small container with drainage holes (too large of a container for the cutting will make it challenging to regulate watering needs) using an indoor well-draining potting mix.
Mix a little rooting hormone into the soil. Plant the stem and roots and tamp the soil down around it.
Place a clear plastic bag loosely around it to help it root faster.
Water the plant and keep it in medium indirect sunlight. After 4-6 weeks, the roots should establish.
