If you've visited the low country of SC, Florida or south Louisiana, you'll find these curly-like plants growing on oak trees for support. This type of air plant got their common name from French explorers reminded of the Spanish Conquistadors' long, gray beards.
At that time, they had the common name of Spanish Beard, which later evolved to their current name. Like all Tillandsia, they feed off the humidity and moisture in the air along with air-carrying nutrients in soil or insects. Plunge them in water for a minute and let them thoroughly dry between waterings. Mist on occasion if the humidity isn't constantly high around them. These plants can eventually grow 25 feet long, but grows slowly!
The perfect plant replacement for spider webs Halloween!
